Guide

Search teaching vacancies and record applications.

1. Search and sign in

Vacancy search, full listings and market statistics are public. Sign in to use CVs, email templates, saved searches, applications and progress tracking.

Use Google, Microsoft or GitHub. Verified tti.org.nz accounts have free access; Google is the simplest way to prove your TTI membership. Everyone else needs administrator approval. Microsoft email claims are not used to grant TTI or administrator access. Use the same provider each time: accounts are not automatically linked by matching email addresses.

2. Find a role

Search by keyword, region, school type, learning area, workload, tenure and beginning-teacher suitability. Active means the ad was present during the last complete Gazette collection; check the closing date and official ad before applying. The archive retains listings that have disappeared from the Gazette.

Use “Any of these title words” for alternatives such as math, statistics, calculus and pāngarau. Save your filters with a name. New badges show ads you have not seen since you last marked the search reviewed.

Email alerts

Open a saved search and choose whenever there are new matches, weekly or monthly, then enable alerts. Alerts are off by default. Opening an ad marks it seen; Mark all as seen clears the new badges for that search. Seen state and application progress do not affect email eligibility. Email batches include matching active jobs not previously emailed for that search. Weekly emails are sent on Mondays; monthly emails on the first of the month. Turn alerts off from the saved search or an unsubscribe link. A verified email address is required.

3. Manage CV versions

Upload a PDF, Word, RTF or text résumé, give it a useful name, and select the version on each application. The limit is 10 MB per file and 20 files per account. Downloads require your signed-in session. Deleting a résumé removes the file and unlinks it from your applications.

4. Prepare an email

Your templates support {title}, {institution}, {reference} and {email}. Choose a template on the vacancy, edit the message, then open Gmail or your email app. Attach your résumé yourself. The app does not send application emails. Opening a draft does not mean you applied.

5. Track an application

Save a role as Interested, Preparing, Applied, Interview, Offer, Rejected or Withdrawn. Add private notes, an applied date, a follow-up date, and timeline events. Mark Applied only after you actually send the application. Removing a tracking record also deletes its timeline.

6. Read the statistics

Totals count distinct Gazette advertisements, not individual teaching positions. A single advertisement may recruit several teachers and carry several learning-area tags. English and Maths therefore overlap. Use the school-type and title filters for specialist roles. All vacancy charts use the scope shown in the filters; the default is active listings. Your application pipeline includes only your own records.

Monthly and posting-time charts use the Gazette’s listed date, in New Zealand local time. The archive is a growing collection, not a complete history of all NZ teaching jobs. Earlier months can be incomplete.

Privacy & data

Teacher Vacancy Desk is operated by Kees Varekamp as part of Jonno’s Jobs, primarily for users in New Zealand.

We use your personal information to provide the service and help you manage your job search and applications. We do not sell it or use it for advertising. Access by our staff is restricted to what is necessary to provide support, maintain security or meet legal obligations.

We may use de-identified application activity—such as application counts and outcomes—to produce aggregate statistics. Your CV, cover letters and private notes are not included in statistical reporting.

We only report or publish statistics where individuals cannot reasonably be identified, either from the statistics alone or when combined with other reasonably available information. Where a group is too small, or a result could reveal someone’s identity, we withhold the result or combine it into a larger group.

This version does not publish shared application counts or outcomes. Your own application statistics remain visible privately to you. Public vacancy statistics describe Gazette advertisements.

More about your information

What we collect and why

Signing in provides account details from your chosen Google, Microsoft or GitHub account, including your name, email address, provider identifier and verification information. We store sign-in sessions and security information such as IP address and browser details. We use these to identify your account, control access and protect the service.

We store CV files, email templates, saved filters, seen-ad records, application statuses, dates, notes and timeline events that you add or create through the app. These support your private job search. If you enable email alerts, we store your frequency choice and delivery attempts and send matching listings to your account’s verified email address.

You can browse public vacancies and market statistics without an account. Providing account information is necessary to use the private features. Uploading a CV, recording applications and enabling alerts are optional.

Who can access it

Other users cannot access your private records through the app. The admin interface provides access approvals, collection controls, email delivery checks, suggestions and aggregate usage counts. It does not provide an interface for reading users’ CVs or application notes. The operator controls the underlying infrastructure and can access data when necessary for the purposes described above. Files are not end-to-end encrypted.

Hosting, sign-in and email providers

Cloudflare hosts the application, database and private file storage and processes alert emails. Your chosen sign-in provider handles authentication under its own privacy terms. When you open an application email in Gmail or another mail app, that provider handles the draft and any message you send. The service does not send application emails for you.

These providers may store or process information outside New Zealand. Hosting location preferences do not guarantee that all processing stays in New Zealand. The operator remains responsible for selecting appropriate service arrangements and safeguards.

AI processing

The current web app does not send your CVs, templates or application records to an AI model. If an AI feature is introduced, its information use and provider will be explained before use.

Suggestions and usage counts

Suggestions are stored with your account so the administrator can read them and update their status. Other users cannot see them. Suggestions are retained with your account; contact the operator if you want one removed.

We count successful page views and form submissions by feature and day, and use a keyed account identifier to count active signed-in users. These usage records do not include search text, full URLs, IP addresses, CV contents or application notes. They are retained for up to 90 days, with daily cleanup, and only aggregate counts are shown to the administrator. Public page views may include automated traffic. We do not identify unique anonymous visitors or add tracking cookies for these counts.

Cookies and browser storage

Sign-in uses cookies. Your theme preference is saved in browser storage. The app does not include advertising trackers.

Retention and deletion

Your records are retained while your account uses the service unless you delete them or request removal. There is currently no automatic expiry for inactive accounts. You can delete CVs, templates, saved searches and application tracking in the app. Deleting a tracking record also deletes its timeline; deleting a CV removes its active stored file and unlinks it from applications.

Deletion from the active app does not necessarily remove copies immediately from backups or operational logs, which follow the relevant retention arrangements. Contact the operator about account removal, retained copies or a data export.

Access, correction and questions

You can ask to access or correct your personal information, request account deletion, or raise a privacy concern with Kees Varekamp at kees.varekamp@tti.org.nz. If a concern is not resolved, you can contact the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner.

Source & collection

Public listings come from the NZ Education Gazette. The collector runs daily. Missing ads are archived only when a complete, validated collection succeeds. A failed collection preserves the previous active set. Operational logs and manual collection controls are restricted to the administrator.
