About the role
Northland Kindergarten Association (NKA) is seeking an inspiring and dedicated kaiako to join the team at Onerahi Kindergarten, Whangārei from September 2026. Onerahi Kindergarten celebrates child-led learning and provides a stimulating programme inspired by the strengths and interests of its tamariki. The learning environment fosters creativity, exploration, critical thinking, and confidence through play-based experiences. Strong relationships with whānau, the local community, and two neighbouring primary schools are central to practice, ensuring children and families experience a seamless and supportive transition to school. Situated within a diverse and multicultural community, Onerahi Kindergarten enjoys strong local connections and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The kindergarten is staffed by a dedicated team of 5 kaiako and a part-time administrator. It operates five six-hour sessions each week, Monday to Friday, and caters for up to 40 children aged between two and six years. Onerahi Kindergarten is a Enviroschools kindergarten. This position would suit a kaiako whose attitude is warm and welcoming, whose communication style is open and respectful, and who demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable pedagogy. The successful applicant will actively uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their practice and be passionate about building meaningful relationships with children, whānau, and the wider community. Applicants must hold a recognised New Zealand ECE qualification (minimum Dip Teaching ECE), current practicing certificate and first aid certificate. Applicants must reside and be eligible to work within New Zealand at the time of applying.
