About the role
We are seeking a full-time, permanent kaiako for a unique shared position between Waitaki Girls’ High School and Waitaki Boys’ High School.
Waitaki Girls’ High School and Waitaki Boys’ High School are seeking an enthusiastic, culturally responsive teacher to join our school communities and teach Te Reo Māori (and Te Ao Haka would be an advantage) across both schools.
This full-time position will involve teaching Te Reo Māori across both schools, supporting the continued growth of culturally sustaining practice and strengthening opportunities for ākonga to engage confidently with te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and Māori performing arts.
We are looking for a kaiako who:
Has the ability to teach Te Reo Māori across a range of year levels. Builds positive and respectful relationships with ākonga, whānau and colleagues. Demonstrates a strong commitment to culturally responsive and relational practice. Can work collaboratively across two school environments. Is enthusiastic about contributing to kapa haka, cultural events and wider school life. Is committed to supporting the identity, language and culture of Māori ākonga
The successful applicant will work closely with staff and leadership teams at both Waitaki Girls’ High School and Waitaki Boys’ High School. The teaching programme and timetable will be coordinated across the two schools to ensure the role is manageable, well supported and provides continuity for students.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of Te Reo Māori education across two proud North Otago secondary schools.
