Listed 21 Aug 2026 · Closes 11 September 2026 5.00pm

About the role

Ōrewa College is a high-performing Year 7–13 school nestled on the Hibiscus Coast. We are seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable and skilled Year 9 homeroom teacher to join us from Term 1, 2027. This is a specialised role working with a supported Year 9 class, designed for ākonga who will benefit from a more scaffolded transition into secondary school. Students will spend a significant part of their programme with their homeroom teacher, providing consistency, strong relationships and a secure base from which to develop as learners. You will teach across a range of curriculum areas, with a particular emphasis on strengthening literacy and numeracy, while building students’ confidence, independence and readiness to engage successfully with the wider secondary school programme. This position would be an excellent opportunity for an experienced Year 7-8 homeroom teacher who enjoys teaching across the curriculum and is interested in bringing those skills into a secondary setting. It could equally suit an experienced secondary teacher with broad subject knowledge, strong pastoral skills and a passion for supporting students to experience success. The successful applicant will be skilled at differentiating and scaffolding learning, building student confidence and creating an engaging and supportive classroom environment. High expectations for all ākonga, alongside patience, flexibility and a genuine belief in their potential, will be essential. At Ōrewa College, we have a strong focus on professional growth, including instructional coaching, where teachers work alongside colleagues to strengthen practice and improve outcomes for ākonga. We expect all staff to positively support Te Whānau Taipari, our full-immersion Te Reo Māori programme, and to contribute to the wider life of the College. Commitment to our school values, Manaaki Ōrewa, and our teaching and learning philosophy, Ako Ōrewa, is expected. Please apply with: Your CV, including contact details for three referees. A cover letter addressed to the Principal, Wiri Warriner.
