Kāinga Designers (House Deans) 1-2 positions

W e are seeking an experienced learning coach (teacher) to join our exceptional social-emotional & relational curriculum and pastoral/wellbeing middle leadership team as a Kāinga Designer as we expand our pastoral leadership team from 6 to 8 kāinga across the school. To start Term 1 2027. What is a Kāinga Designer? Kāinga Designers (KDs) work collaboratively to support the implementation and delivery of our school-wide wellbeing and our social/emotional, relational and academic mentoring curriculum called M.A.C (mentor/advisor/coach). In addition to these curriculum lead responsibilities, our KDs also lead the wellbeing and pastoral structures supporting 9-12 learning coaches (teachers) and approximately 200 learners belonging to their kāinga (home location and team within the school). There are some similarities but also many important distinctions between this role and the role of deans or whānau leaders applicants may be familiar with from other secondary settings or that of team leader/syndicate leader in primary settings. About us Ormiston Junior College is a rapidly growing, richly diverse mix of 1550 learners across Year 7–10 with a predicted roll of 1850 over the next 2-3 years. Our staff of 150 is an incredible mix of educators and support staff from both secondary and primary backgrounds and experiences, spanning all fields of knowledge, wide-ranging industry and expertise.
