About the role

We are seeking an innovative, passionate, and collaborative leader to head our vibrant performing arts department, specialising in dance and drama, starting at the beginning of the 2027 academic year. About the role As Head of Department, you will provide creative direction, operational leadership, and curriculum development for a close-knit team of 3 specialist teachers. While managing a small department, this is a highly visible middle leadership role within our school, responsible for nurturing student talent, fostering creative confidence, and driving performance excellence across Years 9–13. Specialist educators in either dance or drama (with the ability to teach across both disciplines) are encouraged to apply. Key attributes and responsibilities Curriculum and creative leadership: Proactively guide the department through national curriculum revisions and NCEA assessment changes, maintaining a rich, engaging performing arts program. Co-curricular and production focus: Lead and support extra-curricular opportunities—such as school productions, showcases, and regional competitions—that elevate student voice and performance skills. Collaborative mentorship: Foster a supportive, high-trust environment within a small, dynamic team, bringing a positive and creative approach to leadership. Community engagement: Promote the arts within the wider school community, building strong connections through performances, events, and collaborative projects.
