About the role
Tokomairiro High School is looking for the right person to join our team. We are seeking an energetic head of department to lead the development of our physical education and health programme. This full-time position begins in 2027 and offers an exciting opportunity to shape and grow this important learning area at our kura. We are small in size, but our aspirations are anything but. Our ākonga are at the heart of everything we do, and we take pride in the strong, positive relationships we build with our students and their whānau. We are looking for someone who can create a vibrant, engaging programme that challenges, inspires and excites our students, while living our values of whakaute, haepapa, and hiranga. We’re looking for someone who: Has a clear vision for physical education and health and can lead a team and its growth in our school. Has recent experience teaching within the New Zealand curriculum. Holds a sound understanding of restorative practice and culturally responsive pedagogy. Is committed to developing positive relationships with students and their whānau. Is a capable professional dedicated to guiding students to become respectable, capable young adults. Works collaboratively with colleagues and supports others through professional sharing and guidance. Is committed to positive behaviour for learning, restorative practices and culturally responsive teaching, ensuring every ākonga is seen and valued. Is ready to immerse themselves in the vibrant life of our school and wider community. Has a proven track record of teaching up to NCEA Level 3.
