About the role

Freyberg High School is seeking an inspirational and collaborative Head of Faculty Social Sciences to commence in Term 1, 2027. As HoF Social Sciences, you will provide professional and strategic leadership across the faculty, supporting a team of kaiako to deliver high-quality teaching and learning and achieve strong outcomes for all ākonga. The successful applicant will Lead and support high-quality curriculum delivery across Social Sciences. Build and sustain positive, high-trust relationships with kaiako, ākonga, whānau and the wider school community. Develop leadership capability within the faculty through mentoring, professional learning, and purposeful collaboration. Lead annual curriculum and programme review, using learner achievement data, student and staff voice, and evidence-informed practice to identify areas for improvement. Ensure schemes of work, assessment programmes and curriculum planning are current, coherent, and aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum and NZQA requirements. Support teachers to use effective pedagogies, assessment practices, e-learning tools, and inclusive approaches to meet diverse learner needs. Monitor and promote strong outcomes for ākonga, including priority learners and those requiring additional support. Lead a culture of innovation, inquiry, and continuous improvement. Coordinate faculty professional development, appraisal, and staff development. Manage faculty resources effectively and contribute to strategic planning and school-wide initiatives. Work collaboratively with Senior Leadership and other Heads of Faculty to strengthen teaching, learning and achievement across the school. Contribute positively to the wider life and community of Freyberg High School. You will bring An experienced and highly effective Social Sciences teacher (please state subject areas in application). Able to inspire, lead and develop others through strong relational leadership. Collaborative, approachable and willing to have supportive yet challenging professional conversations when required. Organised and capable of effectively managing curriculum, people, resources, and competing priorities. Committed to developing leadership capability in others and contributing to a strong professional learning culture.
