About the role

Mokoia Intermediate is seeking a visible, relational and future-focused principal to build on our considerable strengths and inspire ākonga, staff, whānau and our wider community towards an exciting future. We are looking for an educational leader who is present, approachable and actively involved in the life of our kura. Our principal will know our ākonga and staff, be visible in classrooms and across school activities, and lead with warmth, integrity, courage and a genuine sense of humour. The successful applicant will: Put relationships, belonging and ākonga wellbeing at the heart of leadership. Demonstrate an authentic commitment to Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, embracing te reo Māori, tikanga, mātauranga Māori, whakapapa and local pūrākau. Strengthen partnerships with Ōwhata Marae, Te Roro o Te Rangi, hau kāinga, whānau, hapū, contributing schools and our wider community. Champion every ākonga through high expectations, equitable opportunities, student voice and celebration of success. Value a rich, inclusive curriculum, including STEM, technology, sport, the arts, culture, leadership, camps and EOTC. Build a positive, collaborative staff culture where expertise is valued and people feel connected, challenged and supported. Lead teaching and learning with purpose, strengthening achievement, teacher capability and evidence-informed practice. Bring vision, innovation and strategic thinking, while providing clear, courageous and consistent leadership. Communicate openly and effectively, building trust through listening, transparency and action. Protect what makes Mokoia special while confidently leading purposeful improvement.
