2IC Tumuaki, HOD Te Reo Rangatira, Pou Ārahi Ahurea

This full-time, permanent position at Te Wharekura o Manurewa combines senior school leadership, cultural guidance, subject leadership, and Kapa Haka management into four core integrated portfolios : 1. 2IC Tumuaki (Deputy Principal) Directs day-to-day school operations, manages assigned SLT portfolios (e.g., pastoral care, timetabling, discipline), and assumes full Tumuaki responsibilities in their absence . Mentors, appraises, and develops staff capacity across the school while representing the school in official forums . 2. Pou Ārahi Ahurea (Cultural Leader - Fixed-Term Annual Appointment) Serves as the cultural pillar, guiding the school's response to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and advising leadership on tikanga and kawa for formal events . Fosters relationships with local mana whenua, hapū, and iwi, while building cultural capability among all staff . 3. Head of Department (Te Reo Rangatira) Leads curriculum design, delivery, NCEA assessments, and moderation aligned with Te Marautanga o Aotearoa . Teaches classes, manages departmental budgets, and drives student achievement and fluency in Te Reo Māori . 4. Kapa Haka Leadership Oversees the strategic planning, budgeting, and performance execution for both competitive (e.g., Polyfest) and ceremonial Kapa Haka . Coordinates tutors, musicians, and whānau support teams, while maintaining school kākahu and taonga . Key Requirements & Details Qualifications: Full NZ Teacher Registration, high Te Reo Māori fluency (mātanga), deep mastery of Tikanga Māori, and proven senior leadership experience.
