Kaiako Māori - Head of Faculty Te Ao Māori

Waiheke High School is looking for its next leader of te tari Māori and kaitiaki of tīkanga Māori within our school. The successful applicant will take on aspects of curriculum along with pastoral care oversight as rangatira of our unique Piringākau whānau unit in our kura. The position is available by negotiation either at the beginning of Term 1 2027 or as early as Week 3 of Term 4 if that is preferred. The position carries a negotiable teaching load including students from years 7 to 13 and not exceeding 18 hours per week. The aspirations and planning for Te Reo Māori and Piringākau are described on our website and through our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi as described in our strategic plan. Our ideal candidate will join us on the current haerenga and be ready to shape our next strategic plan and beyond as we look toward 2030 and beyond. As a local community, we work closely with our feeder schools and the successful applicant will be expected to collaborate on projects with our wider community, including our local marae, Piritahi and our local iwi, Ngāti Pāoa. Strength in either reo Māori or Te Ao Haka with the ability to teach up to year 13 in at least one of these disciplines being essential. A willingness to upskill to become proficient in both areas is expected.
