Learning Support Teacher (Numeracy focus)

To commence January 28, 2027 (earlier start by negotiation). Position overview We are seeking an inspiring, collaborative educator for the position of Learning Support Teacher (Numeracy focus). This role focuses primarily on supporting numeracy development within a highly flexible timetable. Working within a responsive framework, you will collaborate across team-teaching contexts, varied learning environments, and specialist networks to empower all students to access the full New Zealand Curriculum. Key responsibilities Numeracy, literacy and ESOL support: conduct diagnostic assessments to identify learning gaps, implement targeted strategies, and provide language acquisition support for ESOL learners. Innovative and co-teaching: collaborate with kaiako to adapt lesson plans, pedagogy, and environments—including learning outside the classroom to suit diverse learning styles. IEP management: lead the development, implementation, and review of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) alongside students, whānau, and key stakeholders. Timetable flexibility: maintain high adaptability to adjust teaching presence across non-traditional timetables, varied settings, and team-teaching roles. Pastoral care and whare āhuru: Lead a Whare Āhuru form class as a Toka Āhuru, embedding PB4L and Restorative Practice frameworks while building educationally powerful whānau connections. Social and transition support: assist students transitioning into comprehensive learning programmes while fostering positive social skills. Collaboration and growth: Partner effectively with Learning Support, Learning Area Heads, the Hauora team, and Senior Leadership. Actively engage in the professional growth cycle (minimum two inquiry cycles annually). Applicant requirements Relevant teaching qualifications and current NZ Teaching Council registration. Proven strengths in numeracy and literacy learning design; prior learning support experience is highly desirable. High level of adaptability, timetable flexibility, and strong organizational skills. Relational pedagogy committed to culturally responsive practice, PB4L, and Restorative Practice. Excellent interpersonal skills to work cohesively with staff, students, and whānau.
