Are you an innovative, inquiry-driven educator who loves sparking curiosity in emerging adolescents? Following the retirement of our long-standing science specialist, Tauranga Intermediate is seeking two outstanding Scale A Teachers to join our vibrant specialist team.

You will lead dynamic, hands-on science learning for Year 7 and 8 students in our dedicated specialist facilities, delivering engaging practical sessions aligned with Phase 3 (Years 7–8) of the updated New Zealand Science Curriculum, helping students investigate like real scientists.
Key responsibilities
Curriculum leadership: Design and deliver an engaging Science curriculum spanning physical, material, biological, and earth systems. Practical and lab learning: Teach scientific inquiry, safety protocols, observation, and data analysis in a fully equipped specialist lab. Localised contexts: Weave TIS Inquiry Roadmaps (Te Taiao, Te Ao Pūtaiao, Te Ao Tūhura) into authentic local learning experiences. Collaboration: Partner with your co-specialist, classroom teachers, and the wider specialist team to integrate science across school inquiries.
We are seeking someone who:
Holds current NZ Teacher Registration with a passion for teaching Year 7–8 learners. Brings a strong background or deep passion for science and hands-on inquiry. Embeds culturally responsive, inclusive practices that honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Builds positive relationships and is eager to contribute to STEAM initiatives, outdoor ed, or co-curricular life.
