About the role

Full-time | Permanent | Years 1 to 13 “Tū ki te marae… Tū ki te ao” A new chapter. A bold vision. A future of excellence. As our current Pouhere prepares for retirement, Te Kāpehu Whetū is seeking an exceptional educational leader to build upon the strong foundations established and lead our kura into its next chapter of growth, innovation and educational excellence. We are looking for more than someone to maintain the status quo. We seek a visionary, courageous and forward-thinking leader with the passion, capability and determination to elevate educational achievement, strengthen our kaupapa and take Te Kāpehu Whetū to even greater heights. Established by He Puna Marama Trust, Te Kāpehu Whetū is a Māori-medium designated special character kura catering for Years 1–13, grounded in the aspirations of Ngāpuhi-nui-tonu. Our kaupapa is guided by 3 pou: Kia Māori – Strengthening identity, language and culture. Kia Mātau – Advancing knowledge, innovation and educational excellence. Kia Tū Rangatira Ai – Nurturing leadership, character and personal excellence. The successful applicant will bring proven educational leadership, strategic vision, strong relationships and a demonstrated commitment to Māori educational success. We seek someone who can inspire kaimahi, empower ākonga, engage whānau and lead meaningful, measurable progress across our kura. Applicants must meet the applicable statutory requirements for appointment as a principal, including Teaching Council registration and practising certification requirements. This is an opportunity to honour our foundations, embrace new possibilities and lead the next generation of rangatira. He kura, he kaupapa, he anamata.
