About the role
Glendowie College is seeking a teacher of Chinese to join our faculty in a leadership capacity. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional language teacher to join our dynamic, supportive and well-resourced team. Languages are a highly valued learning area in our school, therefore Glendowie College is committed to maintaining languages as a compulsory subject in the junior school into the future. We are a coeducational college that places our learners at the centre. We value whakawhanaunatanga and building strong relationships towards our vision to ‘empower ākonga to experience success, ready to embrace their future.’ We have high academic expectations of our students, while also supporting them to develop as confident, articulate, resilient and globally aware young people. In Year 9 and Year 10, we offer students an engaging and challenging International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). Language acquisition is a core component of the MYP therefore the learning of a second language is a compulsory part of the programme. As Assistant Faculty Leader, you will collaborate with the Faculty Leader on curriculum implementation, staff mentoring, and strategic development. Key responsibilities include working with the other language teachers to design our junior programme to ensure alignment between the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate MYP framework. Previous IB experience is preferred but training can be provided for the right candidate. In Year 11, we offer our own innovative Year 11 programme which is designed to prepare students for success in NCEA levels 2 and 3, and Scholarship. The ability to teach Chinese to Year 13 is essential. Applicants need to be living in New Zealand and have the right to work in New Zealand.
