About the role
Bathgate Park School is seeking an inspiring and people‑centred leader to join our vibrant and diverse school community. We are looking for a principal who is visible, relational, and deeply committed to the success and wellbeing of our tamariki, staff, and whānau. Our new principal will bring strong interpersonal and communication skills, ensuring that relationships sit at the heart of their leadership. They will be approachable, fair, and consistent — someone who listens well, communicates clearly, and fosters trust across the school community. We are seeking a strategic and organised leader who has demonstrated capability and proven experience in leading curriculum and assessment improvement, improving student engagement and attendance, and strengthening leadership and workforce capability in a complex school context. A robust performance agreement will be negotiated with the new principal which will include the school’s goals and objectives for change. Equally important is a commitment to staff wellbeing and professional growth. Our next principal will nurture a positive, inclusive culture where people feel valued, supported, and empowered. They will recognise the strengths within our team and encourage collaboration, development, and shared leadership. Bathgate Park School is a place of creativity, diversity, and community pride, situated in the heart of South Dunedin/Ōtepoti. We welcome applications from leaders who will embrace our identity, champion our learners, and work alongside us to build a strong and connected future. It would be ideal for the successful applicant to commence as early as possible in Term 1, 2027, however we are focused on securing the best person for the role and will be flexible to attain this. The successful applicant may be eligible for the Principal Recruitment Allowance (PRA) of an additional $50,000 per annum for three years.
